As an LAA Paramedic working within the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), you will be responsible for entering clinical and operational data into the AI-TRiPS device. Your contribution is therefore integral to the successful delivery of the trial.

The training materials below provide operational guidance on the clinical application and use of the AI-TRiPS device. Following completion of the training, you will be required to complete a short assessment before receiv-ing your system login credentials.

FAQs

The software

  1. What do I do if my log in doesn’t work?

Only trained and assessed users should have login details. If your login isn’t working, use the “forgotten password” option or contact the trial team at Bartshealth.AITRIPS@nhs.net

  1. Who can access the software?

Only staff who have completed the required training.

  1. What happens if I cannot access the AI-TRiPS software but a doctor on scene has screened the patient and confirmed eligibility?

When possible, record the case details (999 call time/date and CAD number) and with an explanation of access issues - email them to Bartshealth.AITRIPS@nhs.net

Adding patient information

  1. If I see a patient I think could be eligible, what should I do?

If an LAA crew is on scene you can ask if they have been screened for AI-TRiPS.

  1. Why can I not use AI-TRiPS during a major incident?

During a major incident information flows are more likely to become strained or fragmented. Given that multiple patients may share one CAD number, patient identification will become difficult for hospital teams. Therefore, for patient safety and the continuity of your primary workflows the device is not to be used during major incidents.

  1. What happens if I am too busy on the HEMS desk to report using the AI-TRiPS software? Can I retrospectively enter details?

No. Details must be entered in time for the hospital team to view them before the patient arrives. Your primary workflow takes precedence.

  1. I started entering a patient and they are no longer being escorted to hospital by LAA, what should I do?

Stop and delete the patient record.

  1. What should I enter if I don’t know the answer to a question?

Leave it blank. Unknown data still contributes to the system’s predictions.

  1. What happens if I don’t have all the information that AI-TRiPS asks for?

Enter what you have. Providing you have the CAD number, 999 call time and receiving hospital - Missing information will be recorded as unknown. If not, enough information is entered a default display without predictions will be shown to clinicians.

  1. What additional information might be required on the first page of the tool?

There is a text box that you can enter additional information into on the first tab. This is primarily for pertinent patient information that is non-identifiable

  • This can be used to add detail – e.g. number of units of pRBC and FFP given, tourniquet application time, unlisted interventions etc.

  • Scene information – e.g. prolonged extrication

It should not be used for patient identifiable information such as: names, date of births, Contact details etc.

  1. I realised I entered information incorrectly; can I update the information retrospectively?

Information can be updated contemporaneously if it is done in time to be viewed prior to the patient’s arrival in hospital. Once the patient has arrived the information should not be changed.

  1. If I change any information, what do I need to do?

Ideally if time allows inform the receiving hospital – note questions 3 and 8. Any changes are time stamped, but you can also add text to the freetext box at the time of updating.

The output

  1. Can I share the output of AI-TRiPS with the HEMS clinicians on scene?

No

  1. Does the information passed in a pre-alert need to change for the hospital to access the CAD?

The 4-digit CAD number and 999 call time should be included in the pre-alert along with other information as per the Pre-hospital Care Standard Operating Procedure Patient Handover (April 2026)

Other

  1. Who can I contact if I have any other questions?

Please email Bartshealth.AITRIPS@nhs.net
